Client Management Software
All organizations use and maintain data in their day to day operations. Client management software is used to organize, store and provide easy access to this data. It allows organizations to keep their data in a central location in a standard format.
When using business databases, they can be divided into two different types. One is the personal database, the other is client management software. These both run on the same basic concepts. One of the main differences between the two is the amount of data that can be stored, networking capabilities, security, and number of concurrent users.
Personal database management systems, like Microsoft Access, work best with a single user. This is ideal for one user updating the information from one single PC. The information can be networked and shared, but generally, no more than ten concurrent users is recommended, the software simply cannot keep up with that many users.
If recovery from network failures, security, or use of multiple users is important, than a server based database system is probably better for you.
Client management software is designed for multiple users in a networked environment. Instead of just your little computer storing a limited amount of information, powerful servers store vast amounts of information. The data sits on the server and allows PCs from various places to network to it and access it’s information. These remote users can alter the data inside, or obtain the data for their needs.
Typically, a system like this would work through an interface like Microsoft Access, but would run through the server. The server would be based on a database system, such as MYSQL.
So, why and how would you use this? Well, for example, you would like to know more about your September keyboard sales. You would log into the server and run a query (like a search) for September sales, and keyboards. This will bring back all of the information giving you everything about keyboard sales in September. From this list you can modify anything you may need to and send it back where it will update all of its information with your new information.
Client management software is a cost effective way to manage your client database. They are also scalable, meaning that you can get something small for now, and as your company grows, you can add memory and space to it, allowing you to do much more with the same system.
You will also be able to take advantage of common user software such as Microsoft Access, making the learning curve slim.
There are many reasons for your business to keep data. Data can be an amazingly helpful resource. But it is only as good as the system used to organize it.
